The September 2014 Access Pharmacy Report shows that Boots remain the most prominent UK pharmacy. With a total of 2,449 pharmacies (17.3 per cent share), Boots hold 6.1 per cent more of the market than their closest competitor, Lloyds Pharmacy Ltd (1590 pharmacies, 11.2 per cent share).

Other close competitors include National Co-operative Chemists Ltd (779 pharmacies, 5.5 per cent share), L Rowland & Co (Retail) Ltd (499 pharmacies, 3.5 per cent share) and Tesco Stores Ltd (374 pharmacies, 2.6 per cent share).

Regional multiples currently have 1408 (9.9 per cent) UK pharmacies and independents and small groups possess the highest share of the market with 5,851 UK pharmacies (41.3 per cent).
